7 Cold Weather Skincare Secrets

7 Cold Weather Skincare Secrets

The days are short (wet and miserable) the nights are long (dark and chilly). Oh, the joys of winter in the UK!

Unless you’re lucky enough to be jetting off for some winter sun, chances are that your beauty regime will slip by the wayside for the next few months.

Hands up, who doesn’t secretly love hibernating?

Wrapping up in cosy layers of knitwear, snuggling up by the fireplace or right next to the radiator. Sounds like bliss! Tempting as this might be, the dry air indoors can lead to lacklustre, dull and dehydrated winter skin. Dry skin is more prone to cracking and flaking, and as skin is exposed to harsh elements outside, combined with the dry central heat indoors, it can become itchy, irritated and inflamed.

So what are the cold weather skincare secrets you need to know to ensure skin is hydrated and glowing all year round?

1. Invest in a supercharged moisturiser

Invest in a supecharged moisturiser

It’s critical to lock in as much moisture as possible during winter when skin is more prone to dryness. The external elements can be harsh on delicate skin, so it’s time to switch up your skincare routine and use more luxurious and richly rejuvenating formulas.

Like Reverse Life premium marine collagen night cream, which contains our trademarked PrimalHyal™ Ultrafiller to repair, revive and renew the skin while you sleep. It delivers an all-new wrinkle-filling experience and, along with nourishing ingredients like apricot kernel oil and shea butter, is the perfect winter skin hydrator

2. Use a daily SPF

Use a daily SPF

You probably never realised that UVA rays are not filtered by clouds or windows. So while you might not be able to see the sun, its long wavelength rays can still damage the skin. Yes, even during winter months. Not just that, but snow also reflects UV, meaning applying SPF to exposed areas is always a good idea if you want to avoid photoaging, not to mention certain types of skin cancer.

We’ve added SPF30, alongside Marine Collagen, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic acid and Sunflower Seed Oil in our new premium day cream for advanced day log protection.

3. Treat yourself to a hydrating treatment mask

Treat yourself to a hydrating treatment

We talked about sun exposure above, and while it is something to be aware of, winter is a great time to invest in any more aggressive aesthetic treatments you might have been considering like a chemical peel or a course of microdermabrasion.

It’s also the best time to pre-prep your skin at home and treat it to weekly pampering sessions with a hydrating sheet mask.

Why not try our 24k Collagen Gold Face Mask? It’s saturated with collagen to quench even the thirstiest of winter skin and will lock in radiance and moisture so you can be a glow-getter this Christmas!

It’s available on our

4. Don’t forget to take your daily Reverse Life collagen

Don't forget to take your daily Reverse Life collagen

With 10,000 mg of high-strength Marine Collagen, Hyaluronic acid (HA), and Vitamin D, our collagen will help the skin remain soft, supple, and hydrated all winter.

The HA helps lock in more moisture while the collagen provides essential skin structure and “scaffolding”.

Alongside Vitamin C, another winter essential and a required component for effective collagen synthesis, Reverse Life collagen is a complete winter wellbeing solution that tackles more than just unwanted lines and wrinkles. It also helps strengthen and protect hair and nails during the harsh winter months.

5. Consider a Vitamin D supplement

Consider a Vitamin D supplement

Given the lack of winter sun in the UK, it will probably come as no surprise that many of our residents are Vitamin D deficient.

Vitamin D helps counteract dry skin in general, which is why eczema and psoriasis sufferers suffer flares-ups during the winter months when exposure to natural sunshine is limited.

Lack of Vitamin D can also lead to fatigue, low mood and depression. They don't call it the sunshine vitamin for nothing! And it’s the reason why we 100% wanted to include it in our Reverse Life collagen drink.

6. Make sure you stay hydrated

Make sure you stay hydrated

During the winter months, you’re likely to sweat less and reach less frequently for that water bottle. But winter skin requires moisture, and water is vital for regulating healthy body functions. So stay hydrated, people!

7. Avoid hot showers and cranking up the heating

Avoid hot showers and cranking up the heating

And while we are on the subject of water, it’s time to dial down the temperature in the tub! Hot showers might feel great, and there’s nothing more relaxing than a Sunday night soak, but hot water depletes skin of its essential natural oils and draws moisture away from the body.

Go gently when you towel down too. No rough buffing is required! Gently pat the skin rather than rubbing; that way, the skin will remain soft and nourished all winter.

Remember to stick to a good winter skincare routine

A proper skincare routine is always a good idea, especially in winter when hydration is key. Start the day with a nourishing, oil-based cleanser rather than your usual foaming one that can dry out winter skin. The same with any astringent toner that you might normally use. Alcohol-based formulas are best avoided.

Instead, the key to soft, smooth winter skin is to lock in as much moisture as possible with solutions and formulas that contain skin-loving ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, marine collagen and essential oils.

But above all else, when the nights are dark and dreary, and we’re all stuck indoors more than usual, remember to stay cheery!

Indulge in a good book or a Netflix series. Use this as an opportunity to discover new and interesting indoor hobbies. And make sure you stay connected to friends and family.
